Vegas, Lake Las Vegas, Zion and Joshua Tree

We didn't pick Vegas for fall break, but Craig had a work conference smack dab in the middle of it, so we decided everyone should take the trip.  You know what they say about hindsight.  Vegas isn't exactly kid friendly, but we spent about 4 daytime hours making the most of the experience by showing the girls the highlights.  They preferred our super fancy hotel (we cashed in a free Hilton stay) to their time on the Strip.  I preferred it too, but it was way too nice for us and I felt like the Clampett's every time we graced that lobby.

The resort at Lake Las Vegas was more our speed, and I didn't feel so nervous every time Camryn grabbed a bag of Cheetos.  Craig was busy working, and the pool only occupied the girls for about 45 minutes on the first day.  We opted for our own adventure the next day, and drove to Utah.  We stopped at Swig twice, had Chick-fil-A (the girls were on day 3 of withdrawal), hiked 2 miles at Kolob Canyon in Zion National Park, and sang the entire first act of Hamilton on our way back to the resort.  It was the most perfect day.

After Craig's conference, we loaded down the rental car and started an adventure with the whole family.  We drove to Disneyland, via Joshua Tree National Park.  Let me start by saying Joshua Tree was unlike anything we've ever seen before....but it was really, really hot.  Even in October it was much hotter than we expected.  The girls, who are generally adventurous, didn't want to get out of the car.  Craig and I are very thankful that it was a stop on our way and not the actual destination of our trip.
