New England Road Trip - New York City

Days 9 and 10

We left our Boston hotel early(ish) Friday morning and made our way towards New York City driving through Connecticut (the guys' 9th state of the trip and 7th for the girls).  After the trouble we had parking in Boston we decided to return our van near LaGuardia and Uber into the city.  By the time we got to our hotel, we had just under 24 hours to see all the things.  Grandad Mike will probably never go again, so I wanted to make the most of the time we had.  I'm so happy to report that even though we were exhausted and didn't have the energy needed for NYC we somehow did every single thing our our list...and with a toddler!

We took the subway, saw the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park, walked through the 9-11 Memorial, ate at Shake Shack, browsed the Chelsea Market, walked the High Line, let the girls play at their favorite little shop in Hudson Yards, bought way too much at Dylan's Candy Bar, saw the Empire State Building, took pictures in Times Square and picked up a pizza to eat in the lobby of our hotel...all within a total of 8 hours!

We started the last day of our trip at my favorite bagel shop.  Of course the line was around the building, but thankfully it moved fast.  Regardless, it was totally worth the wait!  The girls loved the playground in Central Park, we walked down 5th Avenue to Rockefeller Plaza, shopped for the October birthday girls at FAO Schwarz, picked up dessert at Magnolia Bakery, and our last stop was for hot dogs from a street vendor.

It took tons of planning to execute a trip like this, but it was so worth it.  To sum things up in numbers, we had 9 suitcases, 11 bags/backpacks, 1 car seat, 1 stroller, 2160 miles driven, 4 different hotels, 1 Airbnb, countless snacks, and a LOT of patience!  I've said more than once that was a trip and not a vacation, because a trip (especially one with kids) is so much work!  This all started with Charley wanting to see all 50 states before she graduates high school, and it's turned into such a fun adventure for our goal loving family.

Also, I never want to forget that Camry's vocabulary exploded on our trip!  We were in awe of all the things she said while we were gone.  Some of my favorites were "wow...a waterfall...it's beautiful" and "look Momma...a dragon (crane in NYC)...it's huge!"
