The 2019 One: Twenty-Seven 5K and Fun Run was a sweet success for the Lewis family. It amazes me each year to see the event grow, and I love taking the whole family to support such an awesome ministry. At one of our very first brainstorming meetings, we were trying to decide how to use everything we learned from Maddie's Dash to help families, particularly children at our church and in our community. Johnny Markham made the statement that he imagined a future day when our church would be full of people impacted by the ministry. I love that statement, and I love how that becomes more true each year!
I had an extra special moment this year with Maddie, Brad and Michelle after the event. I caught up with them in the parking lot as they were leaving, and I was able to love and hug on sweet Maddie...and Brad and Michelle. We were all crying...except for Maddie, who probably thought we were crazy...but I told her that I loved her and that the whole event existed because of her. I can't think of a better way to honor her donor family!
