New England Road Trip - Niagara Falls

Our New England Road Trip was planned for May 2020.  It's so funny looking back now, because I remember thinking all of that would blow over in about 6 weeks and we would still be able to go on our trip...goodness was I wrong!  In this particular instance, the delayed trip probably ended up being even better than the original, because there is nothing like the experience of seeing New England in the fall...even with a barely traveled, not go with the flow toddler.  Not only had Camryn never flown, but the furthest she had ridden in the car prior to our trip was to Benton (about 2 hours) and honestly she wasn't really good at that!  Our itinerary included a minimum of 2200 miles, and I was a nervous wreck on how it would go.

To make things a little easier on the girls, Craig, Grandad Mike and Billy left early on the first day of our trip and flew to New York City to pick up our van and then drove across the state to pick us up.  We flew to Buffalo with a plane change in Baltimore.  Cam's first flight went as well as I had figured it would go...not great, but I guess it could have been worse.  Everyone had a very long travel day by the time we made it across the border to our hotel in Canada, but we were all very excited to finally be on our New England Road Trip!

Day 1 - Traveling

Day 2 - Niagara Falls

I wasn't so sure that I needed to see the falls from a boat, but I'm so thankful Marilyn convinced me otherwise.  Our experience would have been totally different if we had skipped that part.  Seeing them so closely was incredible, even if we were soaked and cold when the tour was over.  Like so many of the sites we've seen over the years on our trips across America, Niagara Falls is indescribable with words and truly is a must see.

The rest of our day on the Canadian side of Niagara reminded me of Gatlinburg (if Gatlinburg had an off season).  It was pretty chilly for most of the activities, so after checking out Carter's favorite - The Hershey's Store - we decided to spend a few hours resting.  It was just the boost we needed to do some souvenir shopping, find the Sweet Jesus ice cream shop that I had been talking about since I had it years ago in an airport at the only non-Canadian location, and see the falls lit up at night...or attempt to see at night, because we were way too tired and cold to wait until it was completely dark to get the full effect.
