Day 5 - Acadia National Park...my most anticipated stop since we planned our original trip almost 3 years ago. We spent the day exploring, and it was everything I had dreamed and more! Thankfully the weather cooperated during our reservation time to summit Cadillac Mountain. I had checked the forecast no less than 5 times a day for weeks hoping for some sun light, and we did get a little. I can't even put into words how beautiful the views were from the top, especially with the fall foliage. It was breathtaking as far as you could see! All three girls loved it up there and wanted to stay longer, but it was much colder than we had planned for.
I honestly thought a weekday would have been less crowded, but I didn't realize it was Columbus Day until we saw all the traffic. We were still able to see some of the park highlights, which is probably the best we could have done with a toddler anyway. We drove the park loop and our first stop was Sand Beach. According to Grandad Mike, "I bet it's just a darned old beach" and that is exactly what it was...nothing too spectacular in the cold weather. Our next stop was Thunder Hole, and much like Sand Beach, it didn't live up to the hype because the tide was too low and it didn't really do anything. We "picnicked" for lunch, but Carter said what we did was called eating in the car, not a picnic! We loved walking around at Jordan's Pond, and we ran right into Charley's new friend Riley and her family at the gift shop! We finished our day in Acadia with dinner and shopping in Bar Harbor.
