The Lion King, Jr. summer play with Audience of One has been a hot topic at our house for months. Charley set her sights on the role of Young Nala and worked extremely hard for it. I saw first hand just how difficult it would be as a director casting the show when I took her to callbacks. The theatre was filled with talent, but we left knowing Charley had done everything possible to prepare for her audition. All of her work paid off, because a few hours later Mrs. Lena, Mrs. Ashley and Mrs. Brett called via FaceTime offering her the role of Young Nala! A few days later we got the entire cast list, and our sweet Carter was cast in the animal ensemble. I was very nervous for her, because she was so sick on audition day. Thankfully Mrs. Valerie had videoed her at one of their lessons, so we were able to submit something in time even though she couldn't be there in person.
It is such an honor for the girls to be included in these shows. The entire experience is incredible for them. To be in a space where the sole purpose is drama, there is never any "drama" between the kids. Our carpool group is like one big happy family...one that genuinely likes each other! Audience of One truly is a special place. One of the things I love most about the program is the support given when it's "your time to shine!" Everyone was so proud and excited for Charley to have the role of Young Nala, and knowing that she was surrounded by love, support and encouragement was truly a blessing.
I could spend days talking about how phenomenal the show was, but these pictures speak for themselves. The directors were top notch, the sets and costumes were professional level, the casting was spot on, and the kids played their roles perfectly. This was Charley's 10th AOO show, and she nailed it! I always love watching her on stage, but this show was extra special since she was a lead. Having both of the girls in the same show was the icing on the cake. I had tears in my eyes every time my little bird walked down the aisle in "Circle of Life." The ending of The Lion King, Jr. was bittersweet....we are all happy to have a break from the intense rehearsal schedule, but a little sad that it's over. The show was full of memorable moments, and I'm confident we will be quoting The Lion King, Jr. and singing the songs for the unforeseeable future!
