When we got back to Tennessee on Christmas afternoon, we were all so excited to see what Santa had left for the girls. To create the Christmas morning vibe, I always make them go straight upstairs without peeking into the living room to change into their Christmas gowns. They loved everything and were so cute as they discovered their gifts. Charley couldn't wait for us to put her desk in her room after she saw it underneath all of their goodies. She got Gabriella, the American Girl Doll of the Year, from Amma and Grandad and was shocked to see all of Gabriella's gear from Santa. Carter immediately wanted to put on her dress up outfits and was Minnie Mouse and Moana within the hour. To continue our tradition of giving the girls a piece of jewelry for Christmas, Daddy spoiled the three of us with coordinating necklaces from the Tiffany's in NYC...I felt pretty special to be included this year.
We decided that this would be a good year to attempt going to the theater instead of just watching one of the kid's movies at home. For weeks I had watched The Greatest Showman trailer with anticipation to see it on Christmas Night. It looked incredible, and I honestly thought we would all love it. 6 tickets, 2 popcorns, and 4 drinks cost over $125, but I was confident Granddad Mike and Craig wouldn't mind because the movie was going to be so great! Well....all I can say is that I knew I was in trouble from the second the movie started...in song. I LOVE musicals...Amma and Charley love musicals....Grandad Mike and Craig do NOT love musicals. Amma was oblivious to their feelings towards the movie, but Craig kept asking if I tricked him on purpose and Grandad Mike was mocking the movie...in song...throughout the last half. By the end of the film and the end of Christmas Day, moods...particularly with Grandad Mike...can be hit or miss. Thankfully, it wasn't a total miss, and he and Craig embraced the movie and sang the whole way home and for the rest of the night. We finished Christmas Day with a super fun game of UNO, sang our new favorite, original song "36 Ritz" over and over, and went to bed laughing...it was a very merry Christmas Night in Tennessee.
