The very thought of Camryn being a month old and not meeting any of her great-grandparents was more than I could handle. Craig and Carter has planned to spend opening weekend of deer season in Benton, but Camryn and I had to stay in TN because Charley had play rehearsals. When practice was canceled due to a positive COVID test, we decided to crash their plans. It wasn't easy traveling with a family of five, two cars and a dog, but it was so worth it to see my grandparents with Camryn. As I sat in the living room early Saturday morning waiting for Granny Katherine to open her door, I couldn't help but think about Papa and what his reaction would have been. He probably wouldn't have understood a word I said and he definitely would have pronounced her name wrong, but he would have loved her, that's for sure.
We kept our visit a secret, for the most part, but a few special aunts and cousins got to meet our girl. Our visit was also the best medicine for Granny Martha and Grandad Charlie. They had been quarantined for weeks while he recovered from COVID, so Cam (and the big girls) definitely put a smile on their faces.
