Accelerated Reader is a BIG deal at Rutland, and as a Book It! loving kid from the 90s, I couldn’t understand why Charley wasn’t as excited about her AR achievement tags as I was about my free personal pan from Pizza Hut!
In January, I spoke with her awesome 2nd grade teacher, Miss Pillow, and we came up with an appropriate goal with a more enticing reward! If she got 100 total points by the end of the school year (she had 50 something), I would buy her the new AG doll! I made a tracking chart and everything!
I’m proud to say that not only did she hit 100 points with weeks left to spare, she set another goal for herself to get 100 points during the 2nd grade school year! Charley worked so hard, and on the first week of May, just days before the deadline, I got this email!!! All of our encouragement paid off, because the day after she hit the 100 points, she said, "Momma, can we not talk on the way to school? I need to read and take more tests to help hit my class goal!"
